Sorry you're stuck but there's almost always a pretty easy fix! Do NOT try to start all over again, eg. uninstall Max's Pitch Package, etc. That can make things worse.

I could not install the Max Labs Grader because it said The package you attempted to install is a beta package, which you can only install in sandbox or Developer Edition organizations. I did not get it. Therefore, what should I do to install the Max Labs Grader?

So you got the wrong kind of account. You really needed to follow the link that Max gave in the instructions on page 2 of Lab 1a. It's explained there that you should definitely not go to Salesforce's home page and get their 30-day free trial account. It won't work. You'll need to abandon that account and get a new one, using the link that Max gave. Then you'll need to do the work in that account and you'll be able to install the grader.
Sorry for the confusion but we put this in bold red type in the instructions and on the cover sheet too. Computers are very picky and you have to read all the instructions and the them right to make everything work so it's worth spending a little extra time to be sure you don't run into trouble later and take longer fixing stuff that goes wrong.
